Delivering Results:
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
In short, Dallas is booming. District 7 is no exception. The Loop trail will soon connect through the district, increasing both connectivity and access to recreational amenities.
City Council has updated Dallas' mobile food truck regulations to enhance entrepreneurship. And more grocery stores and healthcare options are continuing to set up shop like BridgeBuilders, The Afiya Center, and Dolphin Heights' Community Garden.
And even more is in the works for District 7 - including extending Dallas' streetcar network into South Dallas.
PUBLIC SAFETY
In the last two years, Adam has expanded the RIGHT Care program to more appropriately respond to members of the community experiencing mental health crisis, witnessed a drop in both violent crime and arrests, and invested in our infrastructure like streets, sidewalks, and lighting to make neighborhoods across District 7 safer.
In his next two years on City Council, he will continue to focus on quality of life issues in our neighborhoods and look for innovative ways to continue reimagining public safety.
Since the point Adam championed funding for LED lighting in high violent crime areas, crime has reduced by 40% as a great example of his leadership.
HOUSING AFFORDABILITY
Of course, Dallas' development and these revitalization efforts are not without their shortcomings.
Our housing shortage is an issue that affects all citizens of Dallas from young families to our elders. No one should be pushed out of their home due to rising taxes or insufficient rental and homeownership opportunities.
Each year that Adam has been on City Council, he has voted to decrease the City of Dallas' property tax rate. In addition, we are revamping our housing policy through a racial equity lens and starting to make plans for the City's next bond program in 2024 to meet our growing needs.
NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION
Adam has and will continue to be a strong advocate for revitalization efforts across District 7 and the City of Dallas.
Not-too-long ago, he spearheaded a proposal to stop rental evictions from occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic. That temporary ordinance that has protected tenants through the pandemic is now on its way to becoming permanent.
But perhaps City Council’s biggest success of the last two years was the passage of Proposition A last November. The $300 Million we secured for Fair Park alone represents the biggest investment in Fair Park’s nearly 200-year-old history, while the Cotton Bowl, Music Hall, Band Shell, Automobile Building, Centennial Building, and the Coliseum are all slated for massive facelifts.
Take a look at the latest renderings of the Community Park. As Chairman of the Quality of Life, Arts, and Culture Committee,
Adam is the best champion to see these projects through to fruition!
